HMAS Sydney (II)
HMAS Sydney (II) was a Royal Australian Navy cruiser commissioned in 1935, serving during World War II. It was a sister ship to HMAS Sydney (I) and played a key role in protecting maritime trade and hunting enemy ships in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Notably, in 1941, Sydney (II) disappeared after a battle with the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran, with all 645 crew members lost. The sinking remains one of Australia's significant naval mysteries, symbolizing sacrifice and resilience. The ship's legacy is remembered through commemorations and its impact on Australian naval history.
