History of Afghanistan
Afghanistan's history is marked by its strategic location as a crossroads of cultures and empires. It has experienced numerous invasions and rule by various dynasties, including Persians, Greeks, Mongols, and Turks. In the 19th and 20th centuries, it was involved in "The Great Game" between Britain and Russia. After gaining independence in 1919, Afghanistan faced internal conflicts, monarchic rule, and communist revolutions. The Soviet invasion in 1979 led to a prolonged war, followed by civil unrest and the rise of the Taliban in the 1990s. Post-2001, efforts have focused on rebuilding, but instability persists amid ongoing conflict and geopolitical challenges.
