High-yield Varieties (HYVs)
High-yield varieties (HYVs) are specially developed types of crops, such as rice or wheat, engineered through selective breeding and modern agricultural techniques to produce more food per hectare than traditional varieties. They often have improved traits like greater resistance to pests, diseases, or unfavorable weather, and benefit from better fertilization and farming practices. HYVs help increase agricultural productivity, supporting food security for growing populations. Their use became prominent during the Green Revolution, significantly boosting crop output and reducing hunger in many regions worldwide.
