Herzberg's Research Papers
Herzberg's research focused on understanding what motivates employees. He identified two sets of factors influencing job satisfaction: hygiene factors (like salary, work conditions, and company policies) which prevent dissatisfaction, and motivators (such as achievement, recognition, and personal growth) that promote satisfaction and engagement. His findings suggest that improving hygiene factors removes dissatisfaction but doesn’t necessarily increase motivation, while adding motivators actively enhances job satisfaction. This distinction helps organizations create better work environments by addressing both basic needs and opportunities for meaningful accomplishment.
