Herodian dynasty
The Herodian dynasty was a line of rulers related to Herod the Great, governing Judea during the late first century BCE and early first century CE. They were client kings appointed by the Roman Empire, controlling the region while maintaining some local authority. Herod the Great is the most famous, known for extensive building projects like the expansion of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. After his death, his descendants continued to rule parts of Judea, often struggling to balance loyalty to Rome with local Jewish interests. The dynasty ended with the Roman conquest of Judea in 70 CE.
