hereditary retinoblastoma

Hereditary retinoblastoma is an inherited form of eye cancer that develops in the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye, typically in young children. It occurs because of a genetic mutation passed from parent to child, affecting the RB1 gene that normally helps control cell growth. As a result, tumors can form in one or both eyes at an early age. Because it’s inherited, affected children often develop tumors in both eyes and have a higher chance of developing additional tumors elsewhere in the body. Early detection and treatment are essential to preserve vision and improve outcomes.
