Hereditary Peers
Hereditary peers are members of the UK aristocracy who inherit their titles and positions in the House of Lords through family lineage, typically passing from parent to child. Historically, these titles granted a role in legislative discussions and decision-making. Since reforms, many hereditary peers no longer automatically sit in the House of Lords, but a small elected number still do, balancing tradition with modern parliamentary structure. Their presence reflects the UK's historical aristocratic system, but their influence has been significantly reduced to promote a more democratic and merit-based legislature.
