HER2 Receptor
HER2 (Human Epidermal growth factor Receptor 2) is a protein found on the surface of some cells, including certain breast cancer cells. It plays a role in cell growth and division by transmitting signals when it binds to specific molecules. In some cancers, the HER2 gene is amplified or overexpressed, leading to too much HER2 protein, which causes cells to grow and divide uncontrollably. This makes HER2-positive cancers more aggressive. Targeted therapies can block HER2 activity, helping to slow or stop the growth of these cancers.
