
Henry Dunant
Henry Dunant was a Swiss businessman and humanitarian who lived from 1828 to 1910. He is best known for founding the International Red Cross after witnessing the suffering of wounded soldiers at the Battle of Solferino in 1859. Dunant’s efforts led to the creation of the Red Cross organization and the development of international agreements to help protect and care for victims of war. His work laid the foundation for modern humanitarian aid and earned him the first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901. His contributions significantly advanced the principles of neutrality, impartiality, and compassion in emergency humanitarian response.
