Henri Dutrochet

Henri Dutrochet was a French scientist born in 1776, best known for his contributions to biology and plant physiology. He is particularly recognized for discovering the process of osmosis, where water moves through a semi-permeable membrane from an area of low solute concentration to high concentration. His work laid important groundwork for understanding plant water uptake and nutrient absorption, influencing later biological research. Additionally, Dutrochet's ideas about the cellular nature of life predated the development of cell theory, making him an important figure in the history of biology. He passed away in 1847.
