Henri Christophe

Henri Christophe (1767–1820) was a Haitian revolutionary leader and key figure in Haiti’s fight for independence from France. After the successful revolution, he became a prominent political leader, serving as the president and later as the king of northern Haiti. Known for his efforts to build a stable nation, he initiated large-scale construction projects, including the famous Citadelle Laferrière fortress. Christophe aimed to establish a strong, independent Haiti, but his rule was marked by authoritarian practices. His leadership significantly shaped Haiti's history, symbolizing the struggle for freedom and the challenges of nation-building.
