HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbons)

Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are chemical compounds once commonly used in refrigeration, air conditioning, foam blowing, and cleaning processes. They contain hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, and carbon atoms. HCFCs are less harmful to the ozone layer than older substances like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), but they still contribute to ozone depletion and climate change. Due to environmental concerns, their production and use are being phased out globally under international agreements such as the Montreal Protocol. While they are being replaced by more environmentally friendly options, HCFCs are still in use in some applications today.
