Hawaiian Homes Commission Act

The Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920 is a U.S. law that established a system to provide Native Hawaiians (people with at least 50% Hawaiian ancestry) with land for homesteading and development. It set aside around 200,000 acres of land in Hawaii specifically for these Native Hawaiians, managed by the Hawaiian Homes Commission. The Act aimed to restore lands lost over time and support Native Hawaiian self-sufficiency, but it has also faced criticism for its exclusivity and how it has been implemented over the years.
