Harvey W. Wiley

Harvey W. Wiley was an influential American chemist and a key figure in the early food safety movement in the United States. Born in 1844, he is best known for his role in advocating for food and drug regulations. Wiley was a leader in the establishment of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and conducted extensive research on food adulteration, which helped raise public awareness about the dangers of unsafe food products. His work ultimately contributed to the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906, laying the foundation for modern food safety standards.
