Hare Krishna Movement

The Hare Krishna Movement, officially known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), is a spiritual organization founded in 1966 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. It emphasizes devotion to Lord Krishna, a key figure in Hinduism. Followers practice bhakti yoga, with core activities including chanting the Hare Krishna mantra, studying sacred texts, and promoting a lifestyle of compassion, vegetarianism, and high ethical standards. The movement gained fame in the 1960s and 70s, especially among Western youth, and aims to foster a deeper spiritual awareness and connection with the divine through communal worship and service.
