Hans Küng
Hans Küng was a Swiss theologian and Roman Catholic priest known for his progressive views on theology and church reform. Born in 1928, he became a prominent voice during the Second Vatican Council, advocating for modernizing the Catholic Church. Küng challenged church doctrines, particularly around papal authority and infallibility, leading to tensions with church leadership. He emphasized interfaith dialogue and the need for moral responsibility in religious practice. Despite being stripped of his official teaching authority, Küng continued to write and lecture on ethics, spirituality, and the need for a more inclusive approach to faith and religion. He passed away in 2021.
