Hammer throw

The hammer throw is a track and field event where an athlete swings a heavy weight, called a hammer, attached to a long wire and releases it into the air. Competitors stand within a circular area, using their strength and technique to spin and propel the hammer as far as possible. The event tests a combination of strength, coordination, and timing. The hammer itself consists of a metal ball weighing 7.26 kg (men) or 4 kg (women) and a wire handle. The athlete’s goal is to achieve the longest distance without stepping outside the designated throwing area.
