
Hürrem Sultan
Hürrem Sultan was a prominent figure in the Ottoman Empire, known for being the wife and chief consort of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent during the 16th century. Originally from Ukraine, she rose to influence within the court, becoming a powerful political advisor and mother to several of Suleiman’s children. Unlike traditional Ottoman concubines, she was given the special status of legal wife, which was unusual for the time. Hürrem played a significant role in diplomatic and charitable affairs, leaving a lasting legacy through architecture and charity work, and is remembered as one of the most influential women in Ottoman history.
