GZ Curve
The GZ curve (also called the metacentric curve) shows a ship's stability by plotting its righting arm (GZ) against different angles of tilt. Initially, as the ship tilts, the GZ increases, indicating better stability. The curve peaks at a point called the "initial metacenter," where the ship is most stable. Beyond this point, the curve declines, meaning the ship becomes less stable and may capsize if tilted too far. The GZ curve helps naval architects assess how a ship responds to tilting forces, ensuring safe design and operation.
