Gustav VI Adolf was the King of Sweden from 1950 until his death in 1973. He was known for his interest in archaeology, history, and architecture. As a constitutional monarch, he held a ceremonial role with limited political power, while Sweden's government was run by elected officials. He succeeded his father, Gustaf V, and was respected for his intellect and dedication to public service. His reign saw Sweden modernize and strengthen its social welfare systems. Gustav VI Adolf was also the grandfather of the current Swedish king, Carl XVI Gustaf.
