Grill Marks
Grill marks are the dark, seared lines that appear on food cooked on a grill. They result from the food making direct contact with the hot grill grates, which transfer heat and create caramelization and slight charring due to high temperature. These marks not only add visual appeal but also contribute to flavor by developing a smoky, savory crust. The pattern is caused by the ridges of the grill plates pressing against the food, often left intentionally to enhance presentation and taste. Properly placed, grill marks signal that the food has been cooked with control and skill.
