Great Pyramid of Tenochtitlan

The Great Pyramid of Tenochtitlan, also known as the Templo Mayor, was the main religious monument of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan (modern Mexico City). Built around the 14th century, it was a stepped pyramid dedicated to gods Huitzilopochtli (war and sun) and Tlaloc (rain and agriculture). The structure featured multiple terraces and temples at the top, where priests performed rituals and sacrifices. It symbolized the Aztecs’ religious beliefs, cosmic order, and the universe’s hierarchy. Today, excavations reveal its remains, offering insight into Aztec culture and spiritual life.
