Graves' Orbitopathy
Graves' Orbitopathy, also known as thyroid eye disease, is an autoimmune condition where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks tissues around the eyes. This causes inflammation and swelling of the eye muscles and tissues, leading to symptoms like bulging eyes, redness, dryness, or irritation. It often occurs with Graves’ disease, a thyroid disorder that results in excess thyroid hormone. The severity varies; some people have mild symptoms, while others experience more significant eye protrusion and discomfort. Treatment focuses on managing inflammation, protecting eye health, and addressing underlying thyroid issues to improve symptoms and prevent complications.
