Granulomatous Inflammation
Granulomatous inflammation is a type of immune response that occurs when the body tries to wall off substances it cannot eliminate, such as infections, foreign materials, or cells that are dead or damaged. In this process, certain immune cells, called macrophages, gather together and transform into larger cells known as giant cells, forming a structure called a granuloma. This helps contain the problem but can also lead to tissue damage if prolonged. Granulomatous inflammation is often seen in diseases like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, and certain autoimmune conditions.
