Granma (boat)
Granma is a 60-foot yacht famously used in 1956 for a pivotal journey by Fidel Castro and a small group of revolutionaries from Mexico to Cuba. The expedition aimed to overthrow Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. The name "Granma" comes from a nickname for Castro's mother. The boat's arrival in Cuba marked the beginning of the Cuban Revolution, which ultimately led to the establishment of a communist government under Castro. Today, Granma is preserved in Cuba as a national monument, symbolizing the revolution and the broader struggle for independence and sovereignty in Latin America.
