Governor of Portuguese India

The Governor of Portuguese India was the official in charge of Portugal's colonial territories in India from 1505 until 1961. This governor was responsible for overseeing administration, implementing policies, maintaining law and order, and representing Portuguese interests in the region. The position was part of Portugal's global empire, under the authority of the Portuguese Crown, and the governor worked to manage relations with local communities and other colonial powers. After India gained independence in 1947, Portugal continued to hold onto its Indian territories until they were eventually integrated into India in 1961.
