gout flare

A gout flare is a sudden and intense episode of joint pain caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in the joint. When uric acid levels become too high, crystals form and trigger inflammation, resulting in sharp pain, swelling, warmth, and redness, often in the big toe but also in other joints. Factors like certain foods, alcohol, obesity, or dehydration can raise uric acid levels. Gout flares typically occur suddenly and can last days to weeks. Managing uric acid through medication, diet, and lifestyle changes helps prevent future attacks and reduces joint damage.
