Gothic War

The Gothic War (376–382 AD) was a conflict between the Roman Empire and the Gothic tribes, notably the Visigoths. The war began when the Visigoths sought refuge within the empire's borders but faced mistreatment, leading them to rebel. This upheaval challenged Roman authority, culminating in battles like the Battle of Adrianople, where the Romans suffered a significant defeat. The war resulted in Rome granting the Visigoths land and recognition within the empire, marking the beginning of more frequent barbarian incursions and contributing to the empire’s decline. It highlights the pressures Rome faced from migrating tribes during late antiquity.
