Gorilla beringei beringei

Gorilla beringei beringei, commonly known as the mountain gorilla, is a subspecies of the eastern gorilla. They are large, powerful primates with thick black fur, adapted to high-altitude forests in the mountains of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mountain gorillas are social animals that live in close-knit groups led by a dominant silverback male. They primarily eat leaves, stems, and fruit. Due to habitat loss and poaching, they are critically endangered. Conservation efforts have helped stabilize their numbers, but they remain a vulnerable and important species for biodiversity.
