Gordon of Khartoum

Gordon of Khartoum was a British military leader in the 19th century, best known for his role in overseeing the expansion of Egyptian influence in Sudan. He served as the governor-general of Sudan and was renowned for his military skill and dedication. In 1884-1885, he led efforts to rescue Egyptian and British nationals during a revolt but was besieged and ultimately killed when Khartoum fell to Mahdist forces. His death became symbolic of British imperial challenges in Africa, and he is often remembered for his intense commitment and complex legacy in colonial history.
