Goa's Freedom Movement
Goa's Freedom Movement was a struggle to end Portuguese colonial rule, which began in 1510 and persisted for centuries. By the early 20th century, growing nationalist sentiments led to increased protests and demands for independence. Key efforts included political activism, civil disobedience, and international pressure, especially after India’s independence in 1947. In 1961, India launched a military operation called "Operation Vijay" to liberate Goa, resulting in its integration into India. This movement marked Goa's transition from Portuguese colony to Indian state, reflecting the broader wave of decolonization in Asia and Africa during the mid-20th century.
