Goa Liberation Movement
The Goa Liberation Movement was a political and military effort in the 1950s and 1960s aimed at ending Portuguese rule in Goa, which had been a Portuguese colony since the 16th century. The movement involved protests, diplomatic initiatives, and military action to integrate Goa into India. Ultimately, in 1961, India launched a military operation called "Operation Vijay" that successfully liberated Goa from Portuguese control. This event marked Goa’s transition from a Portuguese colony to a state of India, ending centuries of European colonial rule and restoring local sovereignty.
