Global Warming Potential (GWP)

Global Warming Potential (GWP) is a measure used to compare the ability of different greenhouse gases to trap heat in Earth's atmosphere over a specific period, usually 100 years. It indicates how much heat a gas can retain compared to carbon dioxide (CO₂), which has a GWP of 1. Gases with higher GWP values, like methane or certain industrial gases, are more effective at warming the planet per unit emitted. GWP helps prioritize efforts to reduce emissions by showing which gases contribute most to climate change relative to CO₂.
