Global ischaemia

Global ischemia occurs when there’s a significant reduction or interruption of blood flow to the entire brain, leading to a sudden lack of oxygen and essential nutrients. This often results from events like cardiac arrest, where the heart stops pumping effectively. Without adequate blood supply, brain cells begin to quickly deteriorate, causing loss of consciousness, brain damage, or death if not promptly restored. The severity depends on how long the blood flow is cut off and how quickly treatment begins. It’s a critical medical emergency that requires immediate intervention to minimize brain injury.
