gliosis

Gliosis is a process where the brain or spinal cord responds to injury or damage by activating supportive cells called glial cells. These cells multiply and form a scar-like area, helping to contain the damage and protect surrounding healthy tissue. While gliosis is part of the natural healing process, excessive gliosis can sometimes lead to scar tissue that interferes with normal brain function. It’s a common response in various neurological conditions, indicating the body is trying to repair itself but can also contribute to ongoing problems depending on the extent and location.
