Glenn Procedure
The Glenn procedure is a surgical operation used to treat certain congenital heart defects, typically in children with single-ventricle conditions. It involves connecting the superior vena cava (which returns blood from the upper body) directly to the pulmonary arteries (which carry blood to the lungs). This allows blood from the upper body to flow passively into the lungs for oxygenation without passing through the heart. The procedure reduces the workload on the heart and prepares the patient for subsequent surgeries, ultimately helping improve oxygen levels and overall heart function in complex cases.
