Glacial Period
A glacial period, also known as an ice age, is a time when large parts of Earth are covered by extensive ice sheets and glaciers. During these periods, global temperatures are cooler, causing ice to accumulate over continents and polar regions. Glacial periods can last tens of thousands of years, with ice advancing and retreating in cycles. They significantly influence climate, sea levels, and ecosystems. The most recent glacial period, called the Last Ice Age, peaked around 20,000 years ago and has since transitioned into warmer interglacial periods.
