Glacial Lake
A glacial lake is a body of water that forms when a glacier erodes the surrounding land and creates a depression, or basin, that fills with meltwater from the glacier. These lakes often appear in areas previously covered by glaciers, especially in regions with recent or ongoing glacial activity. They can vary in size from small ponds to large lakes, and their formation is influenced by ice movement, melting rates, and the landscape's geology. Glacial lakes provide important habitats and can also pose risks if their natural dams rupture, causing downstream flooding.
