Gitanos (Spanish Roma)
Gitanos, also known as Spanish Roma, are an ethnic group in Spain descended from the Romani people originally from northern India. They arrived in Spain around the 15th century and have maintained a distinct cultural identity characterized by their language (Caló), music, dance, and traditions. Historically marginalized, Gitanos have contributed significantly to Spain's cultural diversity, especially through flamenco music and dance. Despite facing social and economic challenges, many Gitanos continue to preserve their heritage while integrating into broader Spanish society. Their experience highlights a complex history of migration, cultural resilience, and identity.
