Ghiyas al-Din Balban was a prominent 13th-century ruler of the Delhi Sultanate in India. Originally a Turkish slave who rose to power, he became the Sultan of Delhi around 1266 CE. Balban is known for strengthening the central authority, maintaining strict control over his officials, and emphasizing discipline and order in the empire. He restored the prestige of the sultanate after periods of chaos and worked to prevent internal dissent. His rule helped lay a foundation for the stability and expansion of the Delhi Sultanate during his reign until his death in 1287 CE.
