Ghedli
Ghedli, also known as the Eritrean War of Independence, was a protracted struggle from 1961 to 1991 in which Eritrean rebels fought against Ethiopian rule. It was driven by Eritrea’s desire for self-determination and independence after centuries of colonization and occupation. The movement involved both armed resistance and political activism, gradually uniting diverse Eritrean groups. Ultimately, Ghedli culminated in Eritrea gaining de facto independence in 1991, which was internationally recognized in 1993. The term "Ghedli" comes from the local language meaning "struggle" or "revolution," symbolizing the Eritrean people's fight for sovereignty.
