Gerald Reaven
Gerald Reaven was an influential American endocrinologist who, in the 1980s, identified a condition called "Syndrome X" or insulin resistance syndrome, now known as Metabolic Syndrome. He highlighted how a combination of obesity, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and abnormal cholesterol levels increases the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Reaven's work helped doctors better understand how insulin resistance plays a central role in these interconnected health issues, emphasizing the importance of lifestyle changes and early intervention to prevent serious health complications.
