Georgia Guidestones
The Georgia Guidestones, often referred to as the "American Stonehenge," were a massive granite monument located in Elbert County, Georgia. Erected in 1980, they featured ten guidelines engraved in multiple languages, promoting ideas like population control, environmental stewardship, and peaceful coexistence. They sparked interest and controversy due to their mysterious origins and the boldness of their messages. The Guidestones were intended to provide direction for future generations after a potential apocalyptic event, emphasizing rationality, harmony, and sustainability. In July 2022, they were heavily damaged by an explosion and subsequently demolished, ending their decades-long presence in the landscape.
