George Smoot
George Smoot is an American astrophysicist known for his work in cosmology, particularly related to the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which is the afterglow of the Big Bang. He played a key role in the NASA COBE (Cosmic Background Explorer) satellite mission in the early 1990s, which provided crucial evidence for the Big Bang theory and helped calculate the age and composition of the universe. For his contributions, Smoot was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2006. Beyond his scientific achievements, he is also a professor and has contributed to science communication and education.
