George Pullman

George Pullman was an American industrialist and the founder of the Pullman Company, known for producing luxury railway cars in the 19th century. He revolutionized train travel with the introduction of the sleeper car, which offered passengers comfortable sleeping accommodations. In addition to his business achievements, Pullman created the company town of Pullman, Illinois, where workers lived, which was designed to reflect his ideal of a well-ordered community. However, his management practices and labor policies led to tensions and the Pullman Strike of 1894, highlighting conflicts between industrialists and workers during the Gilded Age.
