George E. Likens

George E. Likens was an influential American ecologist known for his pioneering work in environmental science, particularly in studying how pollutants affect ecosystems. He co-developed the concept of "acid rain," demonstrating how emissions like sulfur dioxide from factories can fall with rain and harm forests, lakes, and wildlife. His research provided critical insights into human impacts on the environment and helped shape environmental policies. Likens was also a professor and scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, dedicated to understanding and protecting natural ecosystems.
