Geography (by Ptolemy)
Ptolemy's "Geography" is a seminal work from the 2nd century that laid the groundwork for mapping the known world. It introduced a systematic approach to geographical knowledge, using a grid system of latitude and longitude to pinpoint locations. Ptolemy compiled and expanded upon earlier maps and descriptions, significantly influencing cartography for centuries. His work also emphasized the importance of accurate measurements and provided guidelines for creating maps. Although some of his geographic data was incorrect, "Geography" remained a fundamental reference for explorers and scholars, shaping our understanding of the world during the Middle Ages and beyond.
