
General Wainwright
General Jonathan Wainwright was an American military officer during World War II, best known for his leadership in the Philippines. After the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, he commanded U.S. forces defending the Philippines against Japan. Wainwright and his troops faced overwhelming odds, and despite their brave resistance, they were eventually forced to surrender in 1942. He became a prisoner of war for nearly three years, enduring harsh conditions. His resilience and eventual release turned him into a symbol of American courage and determination during the conflict. After the war, he received numerous honors for his service.
