General Duty Clause
The General Duty Clause is a rule under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) in the United States. It requires employers to provide a safe and healthy workplace for their employees. Essentially, it means that employers must take reasonable steps to prevent workplace hazards that could cause harm to workers, even if specific regulations don’t exist for that particular danger. If an employer fails to meet this obligation, they could be cited by OSHA. This clause emphasizes the responsibility of employers to ensure worker safety and health as a fundamental principle.
