Gandharan Art
Gandharan Art refers to a unique style of art that emerged in the ancient region of Gandhara, located in present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan. Flourishing between the 1st and 5th centuries CE, it is best known for its marble sculptures and relief carvings that depict Buddhist themes, including figures of Buddha and bodhisattvas. Influenced by Greek and Roman artistic traditions due to historical interactions, Gandharan Art features realistic human forms, intricate details, and elaborate drapery, blending Hellenistic aesthetics with Buddhist iconography. This art form played a crucial role in the spread of Buddhism and cultural exchange along the Silk Road.
